A Message from Fr. Walter

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In the first half of the Gospel of John, Jesus performs seven signs that reveal Jesus’ identity to us, as well as the nature of the kingdom of God. In these signs Jesus turns an abundance of water into wine, cures the sick and the lame, feeds the hungry, walks on water, and raises Lazarus from the dead. Through these signs we see that the kingdom of God is one where there will be no more illness, hunger, grief, destruction, or death. As children of the kingdom, we are called to be signs of the kingdom of peace and abundance.
Mary also shows us the way to the kingdom. Despite Jesus’ first dismissive remarks to his mother, Mary tells the waiters at the wedding feast, “Do whatever he tells you.” Mary knows Jesus’ generous nature. She probably wasn’t surprised when her son, instead of supplying a small portion of wine for the wedding feast, converted upward of 120 gallons of water into wine. Later, Jesus will tell his disciples, “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” When we listen to Mary’s command, we, too, encounter life in abundance.

Eucharistic Adoration

Every Wednesday, from 7AM-6PM

The Holy Name Society will be praying the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet from 5:30pm-6PM!

O Come Let Us Adore Him!!

The Catechism quotes Pope John Paul II: "The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease." (CCC, 1380)

Consider signing up for an hour to pray

before the Blessed Sacrament.

Adorers are always welcome to stop in and

spend time with our Lord.

Sunday Obligation

The obligation to attend Holy Mass on the Lord’s Day is a sacred one. Anyone who is frail or at risk due to advanced age or medical conditions is always excused from this obligation.

However, those who are healthy and not at great risk, the presumption of the faithful should be that, unless they are at an enhanced risk, sick, or caring for others who are at risk or sick, are obligated to attend Sunday Mass.
